2008-04-19, Journey to the East at the Seattle Art Museum : A fantastic evening of music and dance from Egypt, Turkey, Cambodia, India, China and many other places. Traditional and fusion styles were presented.
It was an excellent production and a fine cast of talented dancers in beautiful constume - I'd highly recommend attending the next event.

My apologies for the poor quality of the pictures - I am I'm still learning to shoot action with stage lighting.
If you are one of the featured artists you have my permission to use pictures of yourself for whatever promotional purposes you may wish.

Thanks to Imei for making sure I knew about this fantastic event.

2008-02-09, Bellydancing at Jerzy's Wine Bar : Jerzy's wine bar in Redmond, WA featured some excellent bellydancing by Imei. It was my first visit to Jerzy's - I was impressed by the decor, comfortable while still being classy. I ordered the fine cheese sampler (delicious) which came with olives as well as the expected fruit and cheese served with toast rounds (which I like much better than crackers). The driving rain kept the crowds at home - so it was a friendly gathering that enjoyed the show. To close out the evening everyone got up and bellydanced the last number (even the chef came out of the kitchen to join in the fun).

2007-11-05, World Dance Showcase- Northside Grill Seattle : An excellent evening of dance exhibitions and storytelling, this is a regular event ( http://www.thenorthsidegrill.com/ ) - the grill has good food, very reasonably priced, and the entertainment was excellent. The grill was crowded with every seat taken. Peformers featured in these pictures are free to use them for any purposes they see fit, email me at the address on the card if you want any kind of explicit release. Next time I'll get there earlier for a better seat and take some better action pictures.

2007-08-05, The Rogues - Gig Harbor Renn Faire : The Rogues are a high-energy group with two pipers and two drummers and lots of attitude. World class drumming and piping wrapped up in a very funny theatrical package. Worth the price of admission to the faire (I bought the best-of CD)

2007-06-23, Georgetown-Artis Spoonman, Reggie Miles & Surprise Guest : Georgetown Artopia - I was walking down the street and saw some people getting ready to play. One looked familiar but I couldn't be sure until he took out his instruments. I had played with Artis the Spoonman at Scarborough Faire in 1981 and 1982 (ask me the story sometime)- he's amazingly talented and a legendary street performer. He mixes body rhythms with spoons and sticks - pausing occasionally to deliver a message or two (environmental, peace, be good to one another). Lots of people walked off, but qutie a few stayed. After he started playing the spoons a darling little girle came up - and he invited her on stage. She sang a little, ran off embarrassed and came back several times. Reggie Miles ( http://www.myspace.com/reggiemiles ) started and ended the set with Artis and knocked out some powerful bottle-guitar tunes. Miya (girl) stole the show and the three of them performing was just magical. Afterward he wrote her a note saying she was always welcome to come up on his stage, then put symbols for peace, love, and music on it. She Artis a big hug.

2007-05-22, Celtic Jam Duvall : Every tuesday the P&G speakeasy ( http://www.pandgspeakeasycafe.com/ ) has a Celtic music jam session. A very friendly and lively group assembled, all very skilled musicians. My leg was sore from tapping my foot for 3 hours - I played a lot of bodhran, bones, and a little bit of flute.

2007-02-17, Fremont street performer Erik Bledsoe : I had a snack in front of the PCC market in Fremont and Erik was playing his 12string. Soulful - he sang songs of freedom, rebellion, peace, and longing - and had the world-weary voice that made it real. Erik if you do get your website back up one day, please feel free to use these photos.

E3 2006 - The NCSoft Tribal Dancers : E3 2006 - This was a fantastic tribal dance and music show that seemed to run continuously. A huge screen showed gameplay clips while the band played energetic dance music. Various dancers with fire and hoops entertained the throngs of gamer geeks below. The facing booth was measuring the sound decibels - NCSoft's head guy got up on stage, the drums stopped and he said "They said they're going to fine us because we're too loud...here is my credit card (he holds it up) - come get it!" - the fans of course loved it.

2008-10-02 The New Bop Brigade : I got invited by Steve out to Egan's Ballard Jam House for an evening filled with great Jazz by 'The New Bop Brigade' http://www.opusfunkus.com/nbb/ . Small crowd out on a Tuesday at 9 - but the jazz was excellent. They had a great build through the first set - Gannet was impresive but they brought the house down with the energetic 'Mordant' - every musician was excellent individually but as a combo they were amazing. Egan's was a comfortable venue with a smokey candle-lit feel but without the smoke and the candles were battery powered. Excellent service though I only had dessert. 2009-07-25, Golden Bough at the Scottish Highland Games : I became a fan of Golden Bough years ago when I bought the album ' The Boatman's Daughter ', I didn't imagine that I'd get to see them live at the Scottish Highland Games ( http://www.goldenboughmusic.com/ ). They gave a wonderful performance a mix of their new 'Celtic Love Songs' and some of the older pieces - lively arrangements with gorgeous close harmony vocals. Margie Butler (harp) completely charmed the audience - her love of music and teaching was really clear and came through in everything she did. Kathy Sierra (fiddle) is an outstanding performer and was really having fun (she struck a few slightly silly poses for me when I was taking pictures). Paul was like the ADD guitarist - they'd be ready to start a song and he'd veer off into some little musical interlude on his own which either got all three fo them distracted or he'd trail off as soon as he forgot a lyric -it was like playing with friends in your living room.

2009-07-25, Molly's Revenge at the Scottish Highland Games : This was a really high energy band with a solid bagpipe core driven hard by rhythm on guitar and bouzouki and held together with some fantastic fiddle playing. I bought a couple of CDs on the spot. They clearly had a good time playing as you can tell from the interaction between them on stage. Music that definitely makes you want to get up and move - surprising they put them in the eating tent - there was not enough room for dancing. See them if you can - http://www.mollysrevenge.com/

Pipe Bands at the Scottish Highland Games : There was a pipe band competition at the Highland Games - bands from all over came out to the field and competed for the silver cup. My apologies to the RMM pipe band - one of the band moms let me know I should not have crossed the painted line on the ground when I was taking photos. Actually when I walked up I thought it was just another performance and took pictures - it was after a few pictures I noticed these guys with clipboards walking around and I realized it was the competition. Anyway - though there were no signs in the area about the painted line I now now (and so do you - so no excuses :). Had a great time listening to the bands playing (and even warming up). I was impressed at the diversity of players - men, women, teens - I guess if you are big enough to carry a drum they need you. Excellent musicians and finely choreographed performances were one of the treasures of the Scottish Highland games.

Wicked Tinkers at the Scottish Highland Games : Fantastic Celtic band with creative arrangements on traditional and other instruments like a monster didgeridoo. They had a heart pounding rhythm with their big drums, and unstoppable energy. This band really seemed to have two faces - hard driving Celtic music to get you up out of the chair and moving, and an easy-going audience interaction style that takes the time to play and dance around with little kids and let them try the drums out. http://www.wickedtinkers.com/ Chez has been listening to their latest album pretty much non-stop since yesterday - it was defintiely a treat to see them at the Scottish Highland Games.
I should have given the mom of the little girl in the pink dress a card for this page her daughter stole the show for a few minutes - if you know her, pass it on.
